The World of Online Art

As we continue to become a digital-centric world, I have been exploring, learning, and experimenting with the concept of online art sales. It feels so different than what I’m used to! Of course, I miss seeing people in my studio, but I am happy to be on the train, rather than left at the station ;)

This week I was happy to be featured in a few online curated collections on Saatchi Art, a world-renowned online art selling platform. Saatchi sells art from over 100,000 different artists, hailing from over 100 different countries! I feel like a small fish in a big pond, so I am happy to be noticed and get the exposure!

One great thing about being mixed in with all these other artists is that I get to see my art paired with pieces I may never have seen otherwise! They complement mine beautifully, and it feels very collaborative to be able to featured with so many different artists from different corners of the world. The curated selections are always interesting to me; this particular audience has drawn attention to pieces I may not share or promote as much. It’s always great having another set (or, in this case, large number of sets) of eyes viewing and promoting my work. Take, for example, my piece to your left. It is in a collection with artists hailing from Brazil, South Korea, Switzerland and so many other countries! How cool is that?

I have a selection of my work available for purchase on Saatchi. You can view my profile here! This could be a great resource for my out of state followers, as they handle shipping logistics. They also offer payments through Afterpay, which gives the purchaser the ability to pay for their purchase in 4 increments rather than 1.

The Nature of Color Exhibit

My recent “break out of Covid jail” experience took me into New York City to see the Museum Of Natural History’s “Nature of Color” exhibit. This was an immersive and educational exhibit, with spaces for exploration as well as reflection.

One of my favorite experiences was dancing in front of this color pattern wall and seeing the movement reflected on the wall. Look at how the shape of light dances!

My favorite “thought provoker” was Angelica Dass’s “The Color of You”. This exhibit used Pantone color boxes as a pallet for portraits of over 100 human faces. It highlights our misuse of separating people, or, putting them into “boxes”, by color.

The Nature of Color Exhibit in the Museum of Natural History is ongoing through December 2021. I encourage you to check it out if you are ever in the NYC area this year!

Hooray, Hooray, It's May!

My grandmother was born in 1903 in Louisville, Kentucky. She grew up a southern belle, learning how to be prim, proper, and polite. She even went to finishing school in Paris!

I love the spring! I love the rebirth of the trees, the new life budding, the smell of flowers in the air, and the sounds of the world awakening. Gloomy days are even filled with excitement, for the (April) showers bring the (May) flowers.

Growing up, she was very strict to us kids. We were “to be seen and not heard”. As she got older, however, she grew less strict, and opened up like a flower. One day while sitting with her, she exclaimed

“Hooray, hooray, the first of May! Outdoor screwing starts today!”

Word Games 💬

As I’m sure you can tell, I am diving full force into the art of letterpress and the power of words, as well as truly exploring the process of collaborative art. This fun word game could be used in art, or just as a fun challenge! We’ll see where it goes. See below :)

Can you guess the most commonly used letters in the English language?

We have a game for you. Using the 10 most commonly used letters (below), try and put together a cool word, or a fun sentence. Send me your words by the end of April, and we will have a vote for the best one! The best word/words wins a gift of ART (more details to be released after word submissions).

Happy creating!!!

New, New, New!

All year I have been working on, learning from, and creating new art. I think it’s finally time to share my work with you! Forty-three (43!!) new items have been added to my portfolio, as well as 3 new collections! But don’t worry, they’re all listed out below for you to see as well :)

What’s new??

  • I learned the letterpress and worked with my community to create a collaborate piece of art.

  • I took another look at some old pieces and experimented with collage to create beautiful, new pieces.

  • I was inspired by the weddings of close family members and friends to create memorable pieces that pull detail from flowers, statement pieces, and color tones of that day.

Please view, share, and enjoy!

Happy 2021!

Here in Vermont we are getting a lot of attention after a certain pair of mittens took the nation by storm last week….

… and while we can’t confirm or deny that this is what Bernie’s living room looks like, don’t these pieces just look like they belong with his aesthetic???

See below for full size images of selected works :)
