Wedding Collection

Ahh, weddings. The focus on love, the spoken promise, the witnessing of the commitment, the bond, the vow, and the beauty of the moment - who doesn’t want to be a part of that?

Having attended many weddings, I was struck by the often months of immense planning of the wedding and then how quickly the day flies by… how do we hold onto the memories of that special day a little longer? Great photographs and great stories and feeling that ring on your finger, for sure.

Then I wondered - how about art made from pieces of the special day - flowers from the bouquet, a bit of lace, an imprint of the invitation, the boutonnière, or a reflection of the style of the venue - or even the weather? So, I found myself asking newlyweds if I could take some of their mementos into my studio and transform those treasures into art. The results have been a fun, messy and “in the moment” process that became a gift.

I did a little research on marriage and weddings to see if facts would affect the art process. It didn’t! But I’ll share anyway -

  • About 2 million people get married in the U.S. yearly

  • The average wedding size is 131 guests.

  • The average cost of a wedding ranges from $25,000 - $34,000, dependent on location. The highest average cost is within the NY Metro Area

  • It’s estimated that $55 billion is spent on weddings in the U.S per year

  • The median age of marriage has risen from 28 to 30 years old for men, and from 26 to 28 for women (from 2008 to 2016, according to the U.S. Census)

  • In 2018, 29% of young adults (ages 18-34) were married

    • In 1975, 59% of young adults were married!

Why do people get married?

  • 88% - love and companionship

  • 41% - to start a family

  • 30% - religious reasons

  • 23% - legal, financial, or healthcare advantages
