The Juliet's Balcony Series - I never really "heard" Juliet's words in Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet until my daughter spoke them in her high schools production of the play. From the balcony, her lone nightingale voice spoke of love and truth into the dark night- in spite of the restrictive tides of parental, societal, and cultural belief systems flooding against her-and reawakened my interpretation of those words. Juliet finds her external world in risky conflict with her internal world and yet she is willing to commit to the dangerous pursuit of the call of love. Without guidance, experience, or maturity that longing ended in tragedy. I'd like to believe that if today we could harness youth's idealistic and innovative energy that bucks some of the current belief systems and patterns, if we offer them support and wisdom, perhaps a new bottom line and more coherent world could be created. The Juliet's Balcony Series is about staying present to the truth while the many distractions and conflicting stories that surround us abound.
